On the shelf, extrait de parfum runs 9.7× the per-ml price of eau de cologne. These medians mix houses: a parfum median is partly a measure of which houses bottle parfums, and those houses price high in every concentration. The paired table below removes that effect.

On the same scent at the same bottle size, the EDP costs a median 16% more per ml than the EDT (126 pairs); in 17% of those pairs the EDP was the cheaper one per ml.
On the same scent at the same bottle size, the Extrait costs a median 10% more per ml than the EDP (88 pairs); in 27% of those pairs the Extrait was the cheaper one per ml.
On the same scent at the same bottle size, the Parfum costs a median 5% more per ml than the EDP (61 pairs); in 38% of those pairs the Parfum was the cheaper one per ml.
A pair is one fragrance from one house sold in two concentrations at the identical bottle size; each side is the cheapest live per-ml price for that bottle. Steps with fewer than 20 pairs are not reported.

- How much should an eau de parfum cost per ml?
- Across 6,787 full-bottle EDP sizes we price today, the median is $0.70/ml, with the middle half of bottles between $0.32/ml and $1.60/ml. Above $1.60/ml you are in the top quarter of the market for the concentration, which is normal for niche houses and unusual for designer ones. Measured Sep 15, 2026.
- Is the EDT cheaper than the EDP of the same fragrance?
- Usually, but by less than the shelf suggests. On the shelf the median EDP costs $0.70/ml against $0.41/ml for EDT. Held to the same scent and bottle size, the EDP costs a median 16% more per ml, and in 17% of the 126 pairs the EDP was the cheaper one. Most of the shelf gap is which fragrances get made as EDPs, not the concentration itself.
- Is parfum or extrait worth the premium per ml?
- The premium for the step up from an EDP of the same scent at the same size is smaller than most buyers assume: extrait de parfum +10% (88 pairs, cheaper in 27%); parfum +5% (61 pairs, cheaper in 38%). The shelf medians for parfum and extrait are several times the EDP median because the houses that make them price high across the board, not because the concentration costs that much more. Whether the extra concentration is worth it depends on the fragrance; the per-ml step is measured here so that the price part of the decision is not a guess.
Method: full bottles only (30 ml and up; decants and samples are a different market), the cheapest live offer per bottle size across every retailer we track, per-ml price as that offer's price divided by its size. Concentrations are as the retailer labels them. Oils, body mists and unlabelled listings are excluded.
